Predatory mechanic or fair game? 98 Honda CRV?

I recently brought my 98 honda crv into the shop to get a drive belt replaced, sway / stablilizer bar links/hooks on the rear tires, and a lug nut / bracket for the front tires. The mechanic also did several checks and replaced fluids and windshield wipers. Total cost: $621. (Parts: $343 / Labor: $240 + taxes etc.). Compensating for regional differences and what not (I'm in Chicago btw), is this reasonable? Please uage the sinking feeling in my stomach! Thanks....
