How did the stranger get Eumaeus to give him a cloak in the Odyssey?

The stranger, being you-know-who, tells him a story of the Trojan war where one cold night he got someone to run an errand, leaving his cloak behind which he then wore. Appreciating the story, Eumaeus gave him his cloak for the night.
