Should inherited stock be sold or transferred?
My mom ped away about a year ago and I'm finally getting around to settling everything. She does have some stock that needs taken care of before the estate can be finalized. There are 3 siblings and we all want to split the stock between us, however the person handling the stock wants to sell all of it, divide the $ 3 ways, and then we can buy it or do whatever we want. We've ALL agreed that we just want to divide the stock between the 3 of us, and not get the money. The broker has mentioned a couple of times about selling vs. transfer. Is it that much of a hle to transfer the ownership of stock, OR does the broker make out better if he sells it all and then split the value 3 ways between the heirs? Plus there is no guarantee that if he does sell, that any of us will turn around and reinvest with him. Your thoughts, please......
